Dyslexia Tidbit
Four Subtypes of EF (Executive Functioning
According to Levine (1994), there are four subtypes of EF:
- Material-spatial disorganization: This prevents students from dealing effectively with the equipment needed to be efficient in school. This is seen in such behaviors as losing things, creating messes among belongings, and not bringing home or returning assignments in a timely way.
- Temporal-sequential disorganization: In this case, students display confusion about time and the sequencing of tasks, such as being late, procrastinating; or having trouble allocating time, estimating how long a task will take to complete, or knowing the order of steps needed to complete a task.
- Transitional disorganization: This involves difficulty shifting gears smoothly and results in rushing from one activity to the next, having difficulty settling down to work, or being slow in preparing to leave home for school in the mornings.
- Prospective retrieval disorganization: This involves the inability to remember to do something that had been planned in advance, such as forgetting the deadline of a project until the night before or failing to follow through on a promise to finish a task.

Thank you
- to Mrs. Lisa Haselden for coming in every Friday and volunteering your time for some of our 3rd grade students to read aloud to you - they enjoy it, and it benefits each child to do this;
- to the Wieckowski Family for the yummy and healthy snacks for the faculty/staff;
- to the LABCS PTA for the delicious pies for the faculty/staff;
- to the 8th Grade Students who helped out with the Parents'/Guardians' Night Out; and
- to Easley Combined Utilities for providing breakfast for our Veterans Day Drop-In Breakfast;
Our apologies in advance to anyone accidentally left off.

A Note from the School Nurse
As we enter the fall illness season, I have had questions about when students should return to school
Fever: Students may return after being fever-free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications.
Diarrhea: Students may return after being diarrhea-free for 24 hours (Diarrhea is defined as 3 or more loose stools in 24 hours)
Vomiting: Students may return after being able to keep down food and liquids for 24 hours and are fever-free.
COVID: Students may return on the 6th day after testing positive or from when symptoms started.
Please feel free to call or email me, Nurse Dava House, if you have any questions or concerns.
A Note from the Reading Coach
Our LAB Innovators are working hard as we approach the midpoint of our 2nd nine weeks of instruction. Please remember to read aloud to your child regularly and have them orally read to you daily. These skills are crucial for literacy success!
Our 3rd-5th grade students are looking forward to local author, Liz Rampy, presenting her book Hambone on Tuesday, November 14th. Parents of these students be sure to ask your child about her special visitor who will be joining her for this event!
Our 8th grade Literacy Leaders will be starting Book Buddies with our 1st & 2nd grade students this week. We look forward to hearing about the success of decodable books being read together as well as the influential relationships being formed with our LAB students.

Math Standards
The SC Department of Education provides links to help understand grade level standards for math in first through fifth grade.
Mobymax and IXL are educational platforms that are connected to MAP test scores. This allows for an individualized platform for learning. Your child's teacher has the login information for both of these sites. Please reach out to your child's classroom teacher if you have not received this information.
Other sites for math are Khan Academy and Fun 4 The Brain
