Dyslexia Tidbit
Dyslexia Glossary
"As with most specialized areas, dyslexia comes with its own vocabulary. And, to make matters more challenging, the professionals in the varying fields who diagnose and treat language disability and dyslexia may even use different words to refer to the same behavior.
For example, many public schools do not use the term dyslexia and instead refer to it as a "specific learning disability" (which it is) in reading with difficulties in written word decoding and /or reading comprehension.
We have identified a list of common terminology and phrases often used by education and medical professionals (e.g., psychologists, physicians, speech-language pathologists) in diagnostic reports, individual educational plans (IEPs), and therapy. Don’t feel overwhelmed if you don’t understand all of the terms or acronyms. These words and concepts were new to us as professionals once upon a time, too! When in doubt, ask for clarification."

Dress Code Reminders - Please Read Carefully!
No leggings are allowed on any day, including Friday Dress Down Days and/or other "Themed" Days (even if they fall on a Friday) unless they are under a dress or skirt. Any student wearing leggings with a short shirt/top/sweatshirt will be given something to wear from the Uniform Closet.
Skirts, skorts, and shorts cannot be shorter than 2" above the knee. We have a lot of students coming in with very short skirts, skorts, and shorts. Those students will be given something to wear from the Uniform Closet.
Only solid-color or Lakes and Bridges Spirit Wear hoodies or sweatshirts are allowed. Any other sweatshirt or hoodie will be required to be removed upon entering the building. Also, a collared, polo-style shirt or LABCS t-shirt must be worn underneath - no exceptions.
No jeans or clothing can have rips or tears on them even if there is something underneath the tear or rip. This includes Friday Dress Down Days.
Parking Lot Reminders - Please Read Carefully!
Please make sure you are following the designated lanes for traveling through the school's parking lot. Do not cut down the aisle to avoid the curvy part of the traffic pattern by the field for both morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. The only ones with permission are teachers who need to park. There have been some close calls from parents cutting down the aisle and not following the designated lane. Also, please watch your speed. It has been observed that some cars are driving fast on the property. Finally, observe the entrance and exit points - cars are leaving the property through the front entrance, which creates a hazard for cars entering the property. All cars must exit onto Frank Parrott Road on the drop-off/pick-up side of the building. Furthermore, do not enter the property through the exit. The SCDOT established the traffic pattern, entrance, and exit for the property for the safety of students, teachers, and parents. Please adhere to the protocol established by the SCDOT.
Lunch Reminders
Please remember that students are not allowed to have caffeinated beverages at school. Please remember this if you are dropping lunch off, having lunch delivered, or bringing your child in late.
A Note from the Front Office
Snacks and Water Bottles
Please send a snack and a water bottle with your child every day (please do not send in cups - stainless or plastic - with straws as these make a mess when they tip over and can potentially destroy equipment in the classroom). The school does not provide snacks or water bottles for students. If a student forgets a water bottle, they still have access to the water fountains throughout the school.
Tardies
If you arrive after 8:15, you will drop your child off at the front office. After 8:20, you must walk your child into the school and sign them in.
State Survey
From the SCDE - "The South Carolina Department of Education partners with the Education Oversight Committee to deliver a parent survey. The responses to this survey help school and district leaders understand how parents feel about the school. A link to this survey is being sent to the parents or guardians of every student in South Carolina."
In your child's report card envelope, you received a letter specific to your child with a QR code leading to the survey. Please complete the survey by April 12th.
A Note from the Testing Coordinator
Also, please make a note of the testing dates this year. No appointments or trips should be planned during these dates. Just a reminder that state testing will be done on Chromebooks this year and not paper/pencil, so any extra practice typing, either through typing.com or you dictating lists (for example, grocery lists, things to do on the weekend, etc.), will be helpful.
An email was sent to all LABCS Parents/Guardians on Saturday, March 23 about the state testing that is coming up soon. Please check your spam/junk folder in case it went there.
If you have any questions, please reach out to Mrs. Wendye Henderson, our Testing Coordinator, at [email protected].
A Note from the Student Council
Eyeglass Recycling
Our Lakes and Bridges Student Council President recently attended the monthly meeting for the Lions Club of Easley. The Lions Club has many fundraisers and community efforts and we are happy to partner with them in their mission to provide eyeglasses to those in need. If you have any eyeglasses you are no longer using, please consider donating them. We have a collection bucket in the lobby. Any donated eyeglasses will be processed by the Lions Club for distribution to optical missions around the world. We are so proud of our Student Council President for her initiative and so glad to help our community at large!
Save the Dates! - After-School Socials

A Note from the Gala Committee
Fiesta Elegante
Friday, May 3rd | 6:30 pm-10:00 pm
The Pavilion at Walker Century Farms | 110 Walker Road, Anderson, SC 29621
We have some AMAZING auction items for our 6th Annual Fundraising Gala!
- Sportsclub membership and gift package
- Vintage Gucci bag
- Beautiful art from local artist Ima Riddle 2 (IYKYK!)
- Vintage Louboutin satin pumps
... and more! You will not want to miss Fiesta Elegante!
Here's what we need to make the night a success:
Sponsors
Sponsorships begin at just $500 and go up to $2500. What a great way to promote your business as a supporter of literacy in the SC Upstate! Sponsorships help cover event costs so that the maximum amount of funds raised goes to what matters most: our students and our school. All sponsors will receive a donation receipt (minus the non-deductible value of the sponsorship) for their sponsorship.
"Big Ticket" Auction Items
Do you have a vacation home that you'd be willing to donate for a weekend or week? Are you a dog breeder (or do you know one) willing to donate a puppy? Do you have a luxury item sitting at the back of your closet that you're ready to let go of? All donors will receive an in-kind donation receipt for their tax records.
Ticket Sales
Don't wait to buy your tickets! We've lowered the ticket price this year to $50. You can bring a check to the school, or you can purchase online at https://tinyurl.com/LABCS2024 .
If you'd like to sponsor our fundraising event, donate for the live or silent auction, or have questions, please reach out to Debbie Vaughn at [email protected]. Thank you!
